I had the beef and my husband got the fresh fish. The food tasted great and was servidor quickly. We felt very good about the place. It is a relaxed simple Café, not a fancy restaurant.

Be sure to go the day before you want to dine, and order from the chalk board that requires 24 hour notice. Food, wine, and service is wonderful, but the restaurant is small and not the best view on Sao Jorge.

Great lunch with fresh and local ingredients. Large choice of vegetarian food, but also fish and meat. Highly recommend !

We were ten - well-fed, well-traveled, and not easily surprised. From Michelin temples to humble street corners, we've eaten our way through plenty. But here, guided by glowing reviews, we stumbled upon a true hidden pearl. The setting? Let’s say... intimate. Tables pressed close like old friends, and the evening air wrapped around us like a too-warm scarf. The fans, in a twist of irony, seemed more interested in cooling the kitchen than the guests. But we were here for something far more important than comfort: the food. And oh, the food sang. The octopus Alaganeiro - not grilled, mind you, but cooked whole to perfection - was nothing short of miraculous. Tender, rich, unforgettable. At 45 euros for two, it’s worth every cent, and then some. No one in our group, not one seasoned fork among us, had ever tasted better. The ossobuco was a thing of beauty - rich, slow, soulful. The red snapper, that day’s catch, came with the flavour of sea breeze and sunlight. Even the dessert - a silken Leite Creme - and the espresso stood proud, worthy of any Milan café. There was one false note: a steak, ordered only to back up the ossobuco when it turned out to feed just one, arrived more boiled than seared, and chewed like an old wallet. But we forgave it. If you're more than two-book. Husband and wife run the whole show, and the kitchen closes at nine sharp. Their resources are modest, their hearts immense. I told the hostess they were the best on the island. She smiled and said, quite simply, “I know.” And she was right. In my book? A solid two Michelin stars. A reason all on its own to visit the island. Go for the octopus. Stay for the soul.

We had dinner here the night before they closed down for the week. Had we known, we would have eaten the entire menu. The food was amazing. Very friendly staff that tolerated my attempt at Portuguese. Lucky to have scored our table as there are not many. Wonderful time that we will remember fondly.

Fantastic place for incredible tasting Portuguese food. Great couple working hard to provide that special experience you long for. Very tasty fish and beef stews and petiscos. I recommend understanding the nature of their establishment. If you wish to rush there are other places to go. Recommend to dine here and make a reservation the day before for the dish you select. It's hard for them to accommodate last minute requests with such a small setup. We booked two nights in a row and left very satisfied. Isabel cooks from the heart, What a gem. Thank you for the memories.
